Copenhagen, Denmark

We arrived in Copenhagen by flight at the end of May, 2 days before we boarded a cruise ship to the Baltic sea.  On May it is still very cold (at least on the days when we were in Copenhagen) but there is light until very late hours (at 1:00 AM night the sun goes down). We moved around  the city by public transportation and by foot. The purchase of the Copenhagen card at the airport proved itself and we returned the price of the ticket very quickly. We oriented in the city with the tourist maps we got in the airport and at the hotel. The first evening after we settled in the hotel, we strolled down the pedestrian street ”Strøget” at city center. We arrived there with the metro, from "Kongens Nytorv" station. The street is enjoyable, with an international atmosphere and lots of shops and food. Everything is very expensive and therefore we mainly absorbed the atmosphere and did not buy anything.

We entered the town hall where the "Jensen Olsen's Clock" - the famous astrological clock is  located. The building is close to Tivoli.

We continued to Nyhavn, which is located at the end of Strøget. The area is very picturesque - a harbor for small boats and yachts, and of course cruise ships around Copenhagen.

The next day we took the metro back to the same station - "Kongens Nytorv" and from there we walked to the Amalienborg Palace, the Danish royal palace. We arrived around noon and watched the exchange of guards. Nice ceremony, although not very impressive. After the ceremony, we crossed the street to the Marmorkirken Church (The Marble Church). The church is very impressive both from the outside and from the inside. We continued north on foot to the statue of "The Little Mermaid" and the surrounding park. The walk in the park is very enjoyable. The park combines walking paths on the banks of a pastoral stream and the sea gives endless opportunities for spectacular nature photography. In the park we had lunch at a hotdog stand. From the park we took a bus to the entrance of the Tivoli Gardens. Despite the cold we enjoyed the gardens. during this period of the year there is not much activity in the gardens, and the main attraction is the amusement park. We  entered the aquarium and walked around it (you can give up). We ended the evening at the Gaukamama restaurant located in the park.
